A short biographical film on Dr. Carter G. Woodson (1875–1950), the historian known as the father of Black history, from the Library of Virginia’s African American Trailblazers series. Woodson’s answer to the stereotypes and distortions used to demean a people was knowledge: across nineteen books and dozens of articles he worked to recover the true history of African peoples in America and the world, founded the scholarly study of Black history, and launched what became Black History Month. The film argues that knowing one’s own history is a foundation for self-belief and achievement — a conviction at the heart of Black Boys In Crisis.
