Paul Robeson: Here I Stand — Documentary

A feature-length documentary on Paul Robeson (1898–1976) — the singer, actor, athlete, and activist whose towering artistry was matched by his commitment to human rights. The film traces his roots as the son of the Rev. William Drew Robeson, a formerly enslaved minister who instilled race pride; his rise as a concert baritone and a star of stage and screen; and his outspoken alliance with the labor movement, anti-fascism, and the struggle for civil rights — convictions for which he was blacklisted and made to pay, in his own words, “a heavy price.” For the readers of Black Boys In Crisis, Robeson models the union of excellence, principle, and courage in the face of persecution.
